Q: What is included in a rental?
A: All rentals include paddles, lifejacket and a brief introduction to kayaking and/or SUP.
Q: Do you pick up and drop off in different areas?
A: Your paddle will begin and end at the same place. The water that you paddle on are flatware tidal areas. We do provide you with a map of our recommended water trails and fun areas to explore!
Q: I want to come during the week, how do I arrange that?
A: BVO operates by reservation only during the week. To arrange a weekday reservation please reserve online or call us at least 24hrs before the time you wish to paddle. We will do our best to accommodate you – please remember that we will be meeting you at a specific time so any changes in itinerary should be conveyed to us (it makes our lives A LOT easier!). There is a $60 rental minimum charge for weekday rentals.
Q: What are the water conditions in the Upper Bay and North East Creek?
A: The water in the bay can be choppy from time to time, however the water in the North East Creek is almost always flat and very enjoyable. Even if there is a stiff wind coming off of the bay, the creek is normally very pleasant.
Q: You have no longer operate out of North East Park! Why is this and how can I find BVO?
A: For our 2015 season we did operate of of the North East Park. In 2016 moved to Church Point Road so that we could accommodate our clients in a better fashion. We now have a private launch, our own parking, and over 100ft. of waterfront! To find us travel south on Main St. and take a right on to Church Point Road just past St. Mary Anne’s Church (there is a long stone wall boarding the graveyard). Church Point Road ends at Bay Venture Outfitters.
Q: Where do I store my items?
A: We recommend you leave personal items locked in your car and keep your keys in a waterproof bag (we rent them if needed!). We can also hold your car keys while you are on the water however we will not hold any other personal items.
Q: Do you offer Season Passes?
A: At the moment we do not offer season passes.
Q: Is kayaking or paddleboarding physically strenuous?
A: The water you will be on is flat water, you will be able to control how relaxing or strenuous your adventure is.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Whatever you’re comfortable in! However our recommendations are below.
- Wear non-cotton materials and avoid materials that may become heavy when wet.
- Be prepared for direct sunlight or a cool breeze.
- You must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) at all times.
- Wear closed toed footwear.
- Remember sunscreen!
Q: Do I need to sign anything?
A: Yes. All participants must sign a waiver.
Q: What about poor Weather Conditions?
A: Your safety is our highest concern! We closely monitor weather as storms can kick up quickly. We keep track of the radar and will stop rentals when we feel that it will be unsafe on the water. If you are on the water we will instruct you to listen to our safety signal that will notify you that it is time to paddle in.
Q: Where Can I Park?
A: There is parking onsite at our location at the end of Church Pt. Road.
